Before They Hate (B4H8)

The European project Before They Hate (B4H8) seeks to empower youth and youth sector professionals to identify, understand and combat hate speech, discrimination and misogyny, especially in the online environments. B4H8 promotes human rights, democratic participation and social inclusion through innovative and accessible methodologies, adapted to the current challenges facing youth.

Among the resources created, a training methodology stands out, divided into two modules: one focused on understanding the foundations of hate speech and another focused on practical activities adaptable to various youth contexts. Complementing this methodology, an interactive online platform has been developed that compiles digital tools, downloadable activities and educational resources. In addition, the project includes the photography campaign “Before They Hate” , which highlights real stories of young victims of hate speech or who actively fight against discrimination, and the short film Geltu! (barking) , winner of the Best Short Film Award at the Toronto LGBTQ+ Film Festival, which shows the impact of hate speech and promotes acceptance and empathy in a clear and moving way.

Throughout the project, B4H8 activities managed to mobilise communities and professionals from different European countries. National and international workshops not only tested the effectiveness of the tools, but also prompted meaningful reflections among the participants. The photo campaign and the emotional impact of the Geltu! short film left a lasting mark, promoting empathy and commitment to the fight against hate speech. The shared stories and generated debates strengthened support networks and fostered greater awareness of the importance of inclusion and respect in Europe.
